Save the Habitat Project

NCNWTF partnered with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission to restore historic wildlife fields, known as Mill Ridge, on the Pisgah National Forest. The Commission has cooperatively managed these fields with the Forest Service for several decades. The field borders had been overtaken by woody plants, including non-native invasive autumn olive shrubs. NWTF funds paid for NC Forest Service operators to run a mechanical grinder to reclaim the fields, which will support the regrowth of desirable grasses and forbs that benefit turkeys, grouse, deer, songbirds, and pollinators.
