Board Attendees: Henry Smith, Howard Rumfelt, Jessi Sackett, Tim Draughon, Roger Reynolds, Bonnie Stephenson, Luke Gibson, Richard Plattenberger, Robert Smith, Perry Bryant, Ken Moore, Bill Collart, Jason Huffstettler, Greg Ward, Brent Phillips

Tim Draughon opened the meeting at 3:07 pm with a welcome, opening remarks, and roll call.

Ken Moore gave the invocation.

Previous board minutes were provided via email prior to the meeting and were asked to be reviewed prior to meeting. Ken Moore made a motion to approve and Perry Bryant 2nd. Motion passed.

Henry then gave update that the 2021 December gun raffle was the most profitable to date with 27506 tickets sold. Richard Plattenberger made a motion to continue this drawing with a 2nd by Bill Collart. Motion passed.

Ken Moore made the motion to accept financial report with 2nd from Bill Collart. Motion passed.

Chris Kreh gave report on his work with WRC. He touched on the December commissioner’s meeting in Raleigh NC. Tim Draughon, Brent Phillips, Robert Smith and Zac Morton were present at this meeting to honor and present awards to 2020 and 2021 Officers of the Year. Some of Chris and the WRC with our help were featured in the Turkey Call Magazine for the ongoing research project. At time of meeting, trapping was ongoing. He talked on upcoming Turkey Symposium to be held in Asheville, June 6th-12th. Chris stated that by time of March meeting a new upland bird biologist should be hired.

Trey gave RD update and states the calendar netted $19,880.00 which will go to net of banquets. The turkey virtual Christmas raffle made approximately $15,000. After discussion it was asked for the RD’s to set up talks about the state logo. Trey updated the past RD Conner Bachmann is getting a chapter in Wilmington going and hopes to hold a banquet in 2022. Discussion was held on the local chapters that are not active with any events at this time and how to move forward.

Cully McCurdy gave his update. Perry Bryant made a motion to send both 2020 and 2021 Officers of the Year to Nashville. 2nd by Bill Collart. Motion passed.

Howard Rumfelt gave update on our seed program and the information would be sent out from Sissy from Edgefield on the week of January 10th on the particulars of availability this year.

Brent gave update on the Save Hunt projects in our state. New goals need to be set as we have reached and surpassed ones set. He states that our NC Tarheel Open will be held March 19th at same location as last year, Chatham Co. Wildlife Club. Also, the NCNWTF museum is open and we still need additional material for it.

Ted White gave update that all judges are lined up for the Call Makers contest that is being held at Dixie Deer Classic and judging will be done on Friday of the show. He states that the scholarship info is available online on our national website and will be available on our new state site. The gun we have purchased for the state scholarship is going to be engraved in time to have at DDC.

Jessi Sackett gave update on our website. She provided a tutorial overview of the new site. Changes that were needed or additions were went over. Will be going live shortly after this call ends.

Tim Draughon gave update on upcoming DDC rooms needed for board. He requested all hands on deck for this large event. DDC has informed us that our space has been cut from what we normally are used to. We have asked for separate meeting room to be used for our Call Makers contest but have not heard an answer at time of meeting.

Tim updated the reasons and whys behind the late cancellation of awards banquet due to high number of COVID cases in area. Robert Smith made a motion to have the RD give awards to winners at their local banquets with at least one board member in attendance if possible. Ken Moore 2nd and motion passed.

Due to this being a virtual meeting Robert Smith made a motion to postpone elections. Per the bylaws, elections must be held in person. After discussion, the time to file state board nominations were extended by 30 days until February 7th. Ken Moore gave a 2nd and motion passed. Vote will be held at meeting on March 6th at DDC.

Ken Moore made a motion to adjourn and Brent Phillips 2nd. Motion passed.
