Robert Smith started the meeting at 8:12 am with opening remarks and welcomed all visitors.

Ken Moore gave the invocation.

Brent Phillips presented the minutes from the last meeting. Motion to approve by Ted White, 2n​d​ by Ken Moore. Minutes were approved.

Henry Smith presented the financial report. Motion to approve by Ken Moore. 2n​d​ by Bonni Stephenson. Financial report was approved.

Ryan Stanley presented the RD Update. Discussed National Annual Report and Sponsor incentives to Chapters.

Chris Coxen presented the DB Update.

  • R-3 position with the NCWRC, Chris is going to take a more active role with R-3 initiatives. Asked for volunteers on the GSO event on Feb 1, 2020 at the request of Deet James as well as volunteers for the upcoming Turkey Hunting Seminars conducted throughout the state with the NCWRC. Dates and venues to be announced ASAP. These events will be coordinated through Brent Phillips. Banners were discussed and displayed that Chris made to outline accomplished projects carried out throughout the state.

Chris Kreh presented the Turkey Project Leader Update.

  • The NCWRC meeting will be Feb 26-27 in Raleigh to discuss turkey and small game. All board attendees are welcome.

  • Turkey trapping discussion, turkeys were trapped in Moore County on 1-11-20 to start the next phase of the Turkey Research Project. David Masicki will oversee the project and questions was asked about having him present at the June Board Meeting. Chris to follow up.

  • The Wild Turkey Symposium is in Asheville NC and it will require involvement form the NCNWTF, more discussions to follow. NCNWTF possibly hosting a hospitality suite during the event.

Howard Rumfelt presented the Seed Program Update.

  • The NCNWTF website needs to be updated before the Dixie Deer Classic and there is ​no ​seed left over from 2019.

Brent Phillips presented the SHSH Update.

  • Brent went over the GSO event and the upcoming Turkey Hunting 101 Seminars information.

  • Brent will work with Chris Coxen to set goals for the SHSH past 2022 since we have our original goals and will present at March Board Meeting at the Dixie Deer Classic.

Henry Smith presented the Gun Raffle Update.

  • 50,000 tickets were ordered, and 21,555 tickets were returned. 121 prizes were awarded for a total of $72,656.00. The NCNWTF cleared $37,000. Partners made $109,000.00. Henry will reach out to a possible 3r​ d​ firearm dealer for next year. Tickets will be available on the website this in 2020. Passed the $1M mark on the raffle and will continue to have.

Phil Ferrare the Director of Field Operations for the NE spoke and thanked everyone for the support and dedication to the NWTF.

JoEtta Holder and Bonni Stephenson presented information on the upcoming WOW Event to be held at Camp Raven Knob in Surry County. Asked again for everyone’s help and everyone is welcome to attend the event. Asked for additional UTV may be needed since event will be spread out. Bobby and Linda will be doing the cooking. Banquet will be held Saturday night June 6 at the Palomino Ranch in Lowgap, NC. A website blast survey will go out by Feb 1 to get feedback on which events the attendees would like to have at the event.

Ted White presented on the scholarships. Ted must have by February 1, 2020. After discussions on dates on having scholarship turned in for the local, state and national Ted is following up on the national year.

JoEtta Holder presented on the JAKES trailers. No one to use trailers for personal use-PERIOD! Trailers can be used for NWTF registered events only.

Bonni Stephenson discussed the website calendar and she will keep it updated if she is given the information from the Chapters.

Brent Phillips presented on the State Calling Contest. Volunteers are needed to help with the event. No entry fee will be paid for contestants this year at the DDC.

Ted White discussed the Call Maker Competition and that this year the NCNWTF will follow the rules set by the National. These rules will be posted on the state website.

Robert Smith asked for old business.

Roger Reynolds and Richard Plattenberger presented on having a gala instead of the sponsor banquet. Locations of Troy and Greensboro discussed. Possibly a reverse raffle for cash prizes and have entertainment. The location of Troy was decided to be pursued and a date will be set with more information to come. Motion to move forward by Howard Rumfelt. 2n​d​ by Ken Moore. Motion approved. Online ticket sales will be done, and date will be finalized very soon.

Robert Smith presented on the DDC and the hotel will be the Ramada Inn off Blue Ridge Road. Henry Smith requested new NCNWTF banners for event.

Tim Draughon presented on the Frogman Event. Dates of event July 25-26 or August 29-30 were discussed to be held at Sage Creek Archery in Surry County. Tim will continue to research fees and finalize the details with the owner -David Smith. Terri Campbell will be available for questions. Motion to move forward with July 25-26 by Ken Moore. 2n​d​ by Bill Collart. Motion approved.

Robert Smith discussed the 2021 Awards Banquet and Leadership Conference. Do we want to continue? Awards Banquet of some type is needed. Robert asked again for the Board Members to take local chapters one on one approach and offer help and support. The possibility of having more than one leadership conference held in “zoned” locations was discussed. Motion to have Awards Banquet in Greensboro with a date TBD was made by Richard Plattenberger. 2n​d​ by Ken Moore. Motion passed. Richard Plattenberger asked Jason Huffstetler to research a convention type event the same day as the Awards Banquet. Jason will report back to the Board.

Ken Moore made a motion to make Carl Dixon an Honorary Lifetime Board Member. 2n​d​ by Bonni Stephenson. Motion passed.

Robert Smith asked for discussion on outreach items. Henry Smith reported we have items from previous years in storage. We need to sale all these items before we get more items.

The 2021 Board Meeting dates were announced by Robert Smith. They are March 1, June 7, September 20, and at our winter event.

New Board Nominations was discussed, and Howard Rumfelt, Nominations Committee Chairman, made a motion to accept all 4 new board nominations. They are Jessi Sackett, Luke Gibson, David Lee, and Jason Huffstetler. 2n​d​ by Bill Collart. Motion passed. Robert Smith made a motion to have a sealed ballot. 2n​d​ by Howard Rumfelt. Motion passed. As required by the State Constitution and By-Laws, a Full Board Election was conducted. The sitting Board members were instructed to vote for a maximum of 17 members. Chis Kreh was asked to assist in the counting of votes. The following 17 members were elected Henry Smith, Howard Rumfelt, Robert Smith, Ken Moore, Tim Draughon, Ted White, Perry Bryant, Bonni Stephenson, Bill Collart, Richard Plattenberger, Roger Reynolds, Greg Ward, Brent Phillips, Luke Gibson, George (Jason) Huffstetler, Jessi Sackett and David Lee.

Ken Moore made a motion to keep the 3 positions of the Executive Board as-is with the vacant Secretary position to be elected. 2n​d​ by Richard Plattenberger. Motion passed.

The Board moved to nominations for Secretary

  • Tim Draughon nominated Brent Phillips for Secretary

  • Perry Bryant nominated Tim Draughon for Secretary

Board moved to a vote – Tim Draughon elected to the Secretary position.

Brent Phillips to remain on Executive Board for new term.

Ken Moore asked about help with money for National Award winners to go the National Convention in Nashville. The Board has approved and given $1,000.00 in the past and this will continue.

Ken Moore made a motion to adjourn the meeting. 2n​d​ by Perry Bryant. Motion passed.
